AFRO American Newspapers Archives
About:
The AFRO American Newspapers' Archives document over 130 years of AFRO history in the form of company business records and artifacts, personal papers of members of the Murphy family who founded and have run the company from its inception, and the AFRO Morgue Files, a production archive and reference file documenting subjects covered in the paper.
Afro Charities is a 501(c)3 organization that maintains and cares for the AFRO Archives, hosts programs with local partners, and provides meaningful opportunities for our community to engage with and contribute to the archives.
The archives is currently hosted by the Maryland State Archives while the redevelopment of the archives' new home in West Baltimore is underway. Afro Charities staff provide remote research services for people wishing to access the archives in the meantime.
